Layer Shifts with certain models

I've been getting a lot of layer shifts. they're really really bad on bigger prints that take longer to print. they happen on the x and y axis all at the same time. i thought it was getting caught, but it wasn't i made sure i was there when one of my many failed prints did a layer shift. i thought something was clogging the nozzle or getting caught on it, so i swapped the .4 mm nozzle i was using for a 1 mm nozzle. while this did decrease the print time as well as get further in the print before the layer shifts began. i've tried just about everything i can except for reducing the print speed.

i used ideamaker as well as cura with both the same results.

i should also mention that the printer was only recently used after sitting in my garage for about 2 months while i waited for repair parts to arrive. the printer was set back up and while it did make some noises in certain areas on the y axis, the smaller prints i did worked perfectly.

i've also watched the first 5 layers go down without an issue. it looks like after certain layers it begins to layer shift. i'm not sure which layer it starts at though.

(no pictures because when i posted this i was away from my printer)
