Printer stopped after retract

Hello, colleagues,

Someone else faced out with strange behaviour of printer?:

After each retract it has stopped to approx 10 sec. No any message, errors on display. After printing resumed by usual way. But when nozzle freezed, come material blow out and surface become is not good.
The models w/o retract printed OK.
This behavior is not depend from temperature, length of retract or speed.  It seems, that these stop occured after i update my slicer cura to release 4.1.0.  But at the same period i make reassembling of Z-X-axis system (new bearings was installed), so i am not sure about root cause.

    Here are a couple of suggestions:
    • Double check all wires and connections are tight, including motors and sensors.
    • Try to format the USB, or try another USB stick, and try to print again.
    • Try to print via USB cable via pronterface, and see if the problem is the same.
    • Do you have the same problem with the sample gcode files that were provided by jgaurora on the original USB stick?
    • Please also upload the gcode file here that is causing the issue.
    Please let us know how you go :smiley:
    Kind regards,
    Sam

    If printing via pronterface works, then you can also try to print from USB stick, but while connected to pronterface for monitoring purposes.

    E.g. when printing via usb, and monitoring via pronterface, you might see an error like this: https://jgauroraforum.com/discussion/comment/3259/#Comment_3259

    In this case, the cause was communication disruption between LCD module and motherboard due to a loose motor wire.

    Hi, Samuel.
    Thanks for your comments.
    I have done some your recommendations. Results at this moment:
    1. Model was sliced in cura 4.1.0:
    - USB stick was changed for other one. Stops occured;
    - Print was started from PC (from Cura monitor). Stops occured in the same places. No errors/messages in serial monitor;
    - Print was started from PC (Pronterface). Stops occured in the same places. No errors/messages in serial monitor;
    2. Model was sliced in Simplify3D 4.1.0:
    - Print was started from PC(from Simplify3D). No any stops.
    - Print was started from USB stick. No any stops.

    Ok, I found a problem, but not yet sure of the cause. In the cura file, the feed rate for the z axis is very strange. I am seeing some very large numbers.

    Example, line 6884: G1 F17987547480000 Z1.15

    Can you please check the setting "Maximum Z speed" in your slicer, under the Speed section and check that it is zero?

    Ok, can you please try this for me:
    1. In the help menu choose "show configuration folder".
    2. Then close down Cura.
    3. Then, please select all files, and create a zip file that contains all those items.
    4.  Then can you upload that zip file here?
    That will allow me to check your slicer configuration.

    Can you please try Maximum Z Speed = 100  and see if the same problem occurs.

    Samuel, now print going normal, without stops.
    No abnormal extra values in gcode anymore.
    But 100 mm/s for Z axis seems veru much, isn't it?

    I think, perhaps there is a problem with the firmware. I am guessing that the very large values from cura are confusing it. The firmware is smart - it is supposed to limit its speed to the firmware set maximum speeds (less than 100mm/s, more like 15mm/s) but because the numbers are no longer so large, the problem does not occur.

    Very strange issue, I will have to investigate the real cause of this one more later on....

    Thank you for posting :smiley:
